Event design week: 12th Birthday Party

When we were approached about doing this party we were asked to pull together a ‘special’ party for the 12th birthday sleepover.  The first thing we did was ask the birthday girl herself what she wanted in a party.  She wanted smiley faces. We started thinking about this party and decided instead of throwing smiley faces all over the party to instead do a yellow and black theme with smiley face accents.  Needless to say I think that our birthday girl was very happy with the results!

The elements of this party were pretty simple:  black and white damask, yellow, and smiley face accents.  Here’s what we came up with:

For the tabletop we did a black tablecloth with a damask runner, 2 candy canisters (lemon heads and black licorice), and black candleabra’s with twisty candles.  The individual place settings featured gold chargers, white plates, and a black cup and saucer filled with smiley face stuff – perfect for a 12 year old!  They also got to take the cup and saucer home.

Leading downstairs to the sleepover room we hung custom streamers:

In the sleepover area we repurposed the built in shelves with varying frames with damask mats featuring the birthday girl throughout the past 12 years.  We also created this sign that read ‘No Boys Allowed”

Our birthday girl, Emma, and her friends had a great time and we had a great time planning and setting this up.  Happy birthday Emma J!
