How to cut the cake during your cake cutting {Quick Tips}

As we were sorting our pictures from this past weekends wedding (can’t wait to share btw) we stumbled across a photo of me telling the bride and groom how to cut the cake for their cake cutting. Since it is one of those things that no one knows how to do we decided to post a non-photo related blog post about how to cut the cake during your cake cutting. Hope it helps!!!

Step 1) Grab a small cake plate in front of the area you are going to make your cake slice. If your cake has ribbons around the bottom of it you will need to pull the ribbon off of the bottom layer of the cake in the area you will be cutting.

Step 2) Pick up the cake knife, the grooms hand goes on directly on the knife blade and the bride’s hand goes over top of the grooms.

Step 3) On the bottom layer of the cake make a shallow cut into the cake (approximatly 1 inch deep).

Step 4) Pull your knife out of the cake and then make another slice diagonal to your first cut. (It will look like a tiny pie slice.)

Step 5) Using the cake server pull the cake slice onto the cake plate.

Step 6) Using either the knife or server cut the cake slice in half (normally you call just pull it apart at the icing layer).

Step 7) Pick up one half of the cake and crossing arms with your bride or groom feed it to your partner. How neatly you feed it to your new spouse is up to you.

And now you’ve completed your cake cutting, congrats! :)
