A few weeks ago, we put together a styled table.  Depending on how well you know us, you may or may not know, I’m pretty easily convinced to tear apart the house for a fun project and that Ginger is a lover of all things fancy.  Her dining room table is always set and is an exciting place of design & creativity!  We were getting stir crazy during the snow (& still are, oy!) so we decided to put together a spring table.  Yes, these are the kinds of things we think are fun!  We plan to feature more styled & creative inspiration around here.  Hopefully they can serve as some inspiration as you’re planning your wedding, hosting a shower or just putting together a table top for your own enjoyment!

Back today for part two of India – Travel Diaries, catch up here.

Our goal was different modes of transportation between each city, so we went by train to Agra.  This was our first homestay, Heritage Homestay.  We were the only ones there during the majority of our stay, it and really felt like we were staying with a family friend.  Mr. Singh, the owner, was wonderful.  He had tea with us in the garden, took the ladies for mehndi or “henna” from a street artist and even shared a big album of his daughters wedding photos with me…teaching me all about Sikh wedding traditions (awesome!!)  Of course while in Agra, we visited the Taj Mahal and Tomb of I’timad-ud-Daulah (or baby taj), we also spent a foggy day at the Agra Fort.  Agra in pictures:

We went from Agra to Jaipur via a hired driver.  Alone that was an adventure driving past gorgeous fields of Dal, sharing the road with camels pulling carts full of supplies and even stopped for a delicious lunch before arriving in “The Pink City”.  The first night we had a reservation snafu and ended up staying in this incredible sister hotel (two blocks away).  The hotel we stayed in the rest of the time had a restaurant on the roof overlooking the city.  We had shopping adventures, a textile emporium sort of experience, held a cobra (well I did), toured Amer Fort and we couldn’t leave without visiting Juntar Muntar (please roll your r’s – my struggle with rolling r’s prior to the trip made us/me nickname this: “the place that must not be named!”) I will say, the only thing we missed in Jaipur was riding elephants, guess we have to have a reason to go back!  Jaipur in pictures: 

We then road by luxury bus back to Delhi, back to the lovely Master Guest House.  This should have been an hour and a half bus ride, like things will go, ended up being five hours long.  We found ourselves traveling on an auspicious day in the Hindu calendar.  (More here & here)  It was estimated that 60,000 weddings took place that day!  We caught glimpses, as we came into Delhi that evening, can’t even imagine how amazing it would have been to be in the heart of it.  The second time in Delhi we took bike rickshaws for a trip to lunch and a toured the Red Fort.

Retrospectively, I think there is no way to share this experience fully through pictures and my words are not expressive or vivid enough to relay such a rich experience.  I have a friend, whom I’ve shared many traveling adventures with, and we love to say, “you can’t explain it until you’ve been, and once you’ve been then know just know.”  I find that so true, again & again.  I am unable to fully convey with you the experience of this wonderful, colorful, lively country, that I very quickly fell in love with.  The joy of traveling, for me, is compounded when shared with fabulous travel partners.  Can’t wait to go again…

We are launching a new series today, called Travel Diaries.  Appropriately, timed as Ginger is out of office in Ireland!!  We love love love to travel around here and are excited  to share that piece of who we are with all of you.

India {2011}

Obviously this is a little belated, but it was my last overseas trip and as such felt like a good place for us to start this series.  My husband’s father is from Aurangabad, India.  Jonathan & I had been married about a year and we started dreaming this trip along with his, Dad.  In a fun turn of events, we were also able convince his Mom (Linda) to come along as well.  Jonathan, my father (in-law) and I all went Aurangabad for a few days to visit family and adjust to the time change.  I really enjoyed being there, getting to know family and we even did a little exploring while we were there.  I went on a shopping trip which was an incredible experience (leaving the guys at home of course!)  We also went to Ellora Caves while in Aurangabad.  Aurangabad in pictures:

After a few days we flew to Delhi.  We met up with my mother (in-law), who had also just arrived in New Delhi from the states.  The remainder of our trip followed what is known as the Golden Triangle.  It was the first touristy trip around India for any of us, so we thought it would be a good solid place to start!  We stayed in some amazing spaces, we searched out homestays and what felt like boutique type inns.  While in New Delhi we stayed in (& loved) the Master Guest House, visited Old Delhi, and tried to visit a couple other places that ended up being closed.  We were coming back to Delhi so we were only here a very short time initially.  Delhi in pictures:

Then we went by train to Agra, come back on Thursday for the rest of the trip!

With just 6 weeks left before Sarah’s little Miss makes her big arrival we thought it was time to spend some time with Sarah in front of the camera. I think that these photos capture Sarah exactly how she is.  I think that Sarah is going to make a terrific mother and I hope that she will be able to look back on these and remember the supernatural experience and feelings of pregnancy.

I am so blessed to be able to share my work with such an amazing friend, who will very soon be an amazing mom!
